The Old National
Road was America's first interstate highway established by an
act of Congress in
 1806,
paving the way for expansion from Maryland to Illinois.
After its completion in 1832, as many as 200 wagons a day passed
along its route. The road eventually became Hwy 40 which
retains the charactar and landscape from its heyday in the
1940's. |
