Old
National Road |
|
The Old National
Road was America's first interstate highway established by an
act of Congress in 1806, paving the way for expansion from
Maryland to Illinois. After its completion in 1832, as
many as 200 wagons a day passed along its route. The
nickname "Main Street of America" was coined as towns
sprung up to serve the pioneers. Today, a wealth of the
country's history is found along the road. |
