desert lake northwest of Reno is is a remnant of
ancient Lake Lahontan, which covered over 8,000 square
miles during the Ice Age. The lake is unique with
unusual calcium carbonate Tufa formations, record
cutthroat trout fishery, and one of the largest white
pelican nesting colonies in North America. The
lake is located on the Paiute Reservation where area
caves reveal the history of these native people.
Travel to the lake through Wadsworth and Nixon for a
scenic drive along the Truckee and local historic
sites. |
